To celebrate and honor the academic achievements of our 2022 graduating class, the Adult Education graduation ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on May 12, 2022, at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Adult High School and High School Equivalency Graduates

Commencement Ceremony

You are invited and encouraged to participate in commencement exercises, which are held in honor of all 2022 graduates of Guilford Technical Community College. The ceremony will last approximately 1½ hours.

Commencement will not be a ticketed event. There is no limit to the attendees for each graduate.


There is no charge for the basic regalia set. Caps and gowns will be available for pickup during the Grad Fair on April 20-21, 2022 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m., or any day afterwards through May 11, 2022, at the Jamestown Campus Store. All caps and gowns must be picked up by Wednesday, May 11, 2022, and will not be available at the coliseum prior to the ceremony. The Jamestown store also offers announcements, frames, rings, veterans cords, and more to help you celebrate your accomplishment.


Graduates will wear their caps in the academic procession and throughout the ceremony.


Graduates are to wear the tassels on the right-front side before degrees are conferred. Graduates will reposition them to the left side in unison on cue from GTCC President Anthony Clarke, Ph.D., after degrees are conferred.


High School Equivalency graduates who have achieved a combined score of at least 620 points (out of a possible 800 points) on the four official GED tests or a combined score of at least 75 points (out of a possible 100 points) on 5 official HiSet tests and Adult High School graduates with a 3.5 GPA or higher will wear a gold cord or tassel to designate their academic achievement. A department representative from your program will have a definitive list of graduates who are eligible for a gold cord or tassel during your scheduled lineup time.


Women should wear a simple white or dark dress or dress slacks (no jeans, please) and dark or black shoes with low or medium heels (less than 3 inches high). Avoid wearing bright colored clothing, shoes, earrings or other costume jewelry. Men should wear dark pants (no jeans, please) and dark shoes. If your gown is wrinkled, either hang it in a place where steam is generated (e.g., a shower stall) or press it with an iron on a lukewarm setting.


All graduates will report for lineup with full graduation attire one hour prior to their commencement times.

  • 10 a.m. for STEM, Human Services and Public Safety, Health Sciences, Aviation, and Adult Education. The lineup is to be completed at least 30 minutes before the ceremony begins.

The formal processional will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Graduates are required to remain in their designated places throughout the entire ceremony. Please line up with the Adult Education department.


Graduates will receive a blank diploma cover when they cross the stage.

GradImages is the official GTCC graduation photographer. GradImages will take photographs of each graduate during the ceremony. Proofs of the photos will be sent to your home address with several options for you to purchase.

Parking is free for you and your guests. A parking pass is not required, but please have your guests tell the parking staff they are attending the GTCC graduation. Advise your guests to arrive early enough to take advantage of free coliseum parking.


Graduates are not limited on the number of guests who may attend the commencement ceremony. The ceremony is expected to last approximately 1½ hours. If you or any of your guests have a disability and need accommodations, please notify Kent Cowan at (336) 334-4822, ext. 50113 as soon as possible. The coliseum doors will open for guests approximately one hour before each ceremony.


The coliseum does not allow balloons in the arena. Please inform your guests that they will not be allowed to bring balloons into the coliseum.
