GTCC Workforce Training courses offer you short-term training that give you a credential to help land you that perfect job. We can prepare for you licensure exams and help you earn industry-recognized credentials in a variety of fields. In a few weeks or months, you can be ready to enter a new career. We also offer many training programs designed to help you gain new and/or upgrade your current job-related skills to enhance your career.

Courses are taught at locations throughout Guilford County, as well as online.

Current Courses for Industry Training

This four hour training will prepare managers to hire the right people for the right job! By preparing for the interview in advance, asking the right questions, checking references, and welcoming the new hire. Turnover rates have decreased, allowing for better teams and improved moral.

 

Every document you send is a reflection on you and your company and therefore has an impact on your business. This hands-on training will explore key elements in the business writing process. Effective email communication, proof-reading; grammar and punctuation are a few areas covered.

Conflict has been around since the beginning of time. It has an impact on production, quality, turnover and relationships. It is how we handle conflict that makes all the difference.  This training will teach us how to more effectively resolve our differences to turn negative situations into positive ones.

This course is free.

Furniture Sewing introduces skills needed to sew upholstered furniture and covers operation of standard industrial sewing machines.; Topics include machine operation, safety, terminology, adjustment and maintenance, threading and sewing straight lines, corners, curves and welts.

Furniture Upholstery covers the basic skills and fundamentals of upholstered furniture construction, including seat construction, inside upholstery and outside upholstery.

Industrial Electricity demystifies the study of electricity. Studies indicate 80% of the faults associated with electrical control systems involve either devices or field wiring. The other 20% faults can be quickly found using software tools that usually remain hidden to all but the most experienced troubleshooting professional. Industrial Electricity provides you with real world training for your real world needs. You will benefit from this class as long as you have an interest in learning to troubleshoot and repair electrical apparatus.

Motors and Controls introduces a broad range of motor types and control systems.  It provides an overview of the electric motor operation, selection, installation, control, and maintenance. Every effort is made to present the most up-to-date information to currently reflect the current needs and state of the industry.

Technicians will experience individualized, hands-on learning with motor control trainers and group lecture of concepts and principles.

Practical Troubleshooting is an innovative methodology that enables your quest to discover and eliminate waste in your process as you filter out problem symptoms in your search for root cause.  Allowing corrective actions to become more efficient and effective as you begin to permanently solve more problems in less time the first time. You will learn how to write a problem statement; how to properly describe a problem; how to filter and differentiate; how to look for changes; how to brainstorm possible causes; and how to identify, verify and test for root cause.

This is the first in a series of courses designed to develop and enhance the skills of the sewing machine mechanic. This modular series will be based on the machine and stitch type, allowing the participant to start with the basics and move through subsequent course as they apply to their specific industry process. This course is designed for more than the mechanic. ... Quality Assurance and Product Development will find the information a valuable resource.
