Broker Pre-Licensing

This is the required course you need in preparation to become a “provisional broker”.

This course covers:

This course is 82 hours in length and costs $188. There are additional fees for textbook and materials, which must be purchased from the bookstore located on the campus where your class is being taught.

To qualify for the IN-CLASS final exam, students MUST have a combined average score of 80% on the seven weekly tests given during class.

Students can then take the final exam, and if they pass this, they are eligible to take the North Carolina Real Estate Commission exam that is required to become a licensed real estate broker.

Note to Students: Please have read chapters 1, 2 & 3 prior to attending the 1st class.

Broker Relationships & Responsibilities     
Topics addressed in this course include:

  • A review of agency relationships in real estate sales transactions and a real estate agent’s legal duties to clients and customers
  • A step-by-step review and discussion of the functions and responsibilities of a real estate agent when working with residential sellers and buyers,
  • A review of issues associated with agent compensation and agents changing firms and
  • A review of license status and education issues.

Required text is North Carolina Real Estate Manual (latest version available after August 1, 2017 and will be required for this course) and Residential Square Footage Guidelines and they must be purchased from the campus bookstore where the course will be taught PRIOR to class.

Between the Lines: Insights from the Real Estate Bulletin
A real estate elective course designed to address some of the most commonly asked questions posed by real estate brokers and to provide insight into many misunderstood positions taken by the Commission on transactional matters. The articles in this book previously appeared in the North Carolina Real Estate Commission’s publication – Real Estate Bulletin (from 2007 to 2017).

Real Estate Update
This is the mandatory real estate continuing education course #9918.  Course content is changed each year in order to keep you current in subject areas such as contracts, environmental concerns, real estate rules, and zoning.  The 4-hour real estate update is required to maintain licensure and should be completed each year.

Students who successfully complete the HVAC/Refrigeration Technician class will receive an Award of Completion.  

Requirements for Successful Completion:

  • Attendance: Must be in class 90% of class hours.
  • Coursework: Achieve 80% on coursework.

If you enter after the 2nd day of class, you will not receive credit for taking the class.  Additionally, time absent will be counted against you; students can only miss 13 hours of class total and pass the class. 

GTCC will make a 100% refund of registration fees if you officially withdraw from class BEFORE the first class meeting. GTCC will refund 75% of the registration fee (of tuition only) if you officially withdraw from classes on the first day of classes OR before the class reaches the 10% point. The 10% point varies from class to class. To request a refund, please call Janice Troy at (336) 334-4822 ext. 53024. If a class is cancelled or full, GTCC will automatically process a full refund. Refunds are processed on a monthly basis. The College refund policy is established by state legislative action and is subject to change without prior notice to students.
