Therapeutic Massage – Professional

The Therapeutic Massage program prepares you with the training and skills for success in a rapidly growing, dynamic profession. The curriculum consists of 659 hours of classroom and clinical training that is designed to prepare students to practice as a professional Massage Therapist in a variety of employment settings.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the North Carolina Massage and Bodywork Therapy Licensing Examination (MBlex) to become a licensed Massage Therapist in North Carolina. Students will also receive a certification in Neuromuscular Therapy American VersionÔ (NMT), which will open doors in medical settings such as Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Chiropractic and others.

Program Admission Policy

To be accepted in GTCC’s Therapeutic Massage Program, an individual must meet the following criteria and must complete an application packet:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalency
  • Score at least a 10th grade Reading level on the Test for Basic Adult Education (TABE)
  • Provide three letters of reference (2 business related, 1 friend – no family members)
  • Attend a pre-admissions interview
  • Attend an orientation session

Professional Therapeutic Massage Program

The program consists of three modules and student clinic training:

  • Module I/Massage Therapy I - Will lay the foundation for Therapeutic Massage by outlining History, Body Mechanics, and indications/contraindications for Massage, and basic Swedish strokes for relation.
  • Module II/Massage Therapy II – Will focus on how to treat more specific concerns by taking parts of the body and various pathologies commonly treated with therapeutic massage.
  • Module III/Neuromuscular Therapy American Version - Will focus on pain management techniques known as NMT™ American Version™. This method is well recognized in the medical field in such professions as chiropractic, orthopedic, and sports medicine. Students will leave our program with a certification in this method to make them even more marketable when seeking work.
  • Student Clinic – Will provide each student with real life experience working with the public.

  • Once you have completed the application packet and met the requirements for acceptance into the program, you will be given an “approved Continuing Education Registration” form signed by the program coordinator that you will need to complete.
  • Next, you should present your approved registration form and a form of payment (check, cash, credit card or money order) to the Continuing Education Registration Office in person. You cannot register and pay online for this program.

Jamestown Campus Annex: 140 Jamestown Court, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Greensboro Campus: 3505 East Wendover Ave, Continuing Education Center, Monday – Thursday, 8:30am am to 6:00 pm / Friday, 9:00 am to 12 noon  in the Continuing Education Center (CEC) Bldg.

High Point Campus: 901 South Main Street, H-1Building, Monday – Thursday 8:30 am to 6:00 pm / Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.

  • Day program

9 months in length

(Monday, Wednesday, Friday OR Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

  • Evening program

14 months in length

(Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday OR Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.   AND Every third Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

Cost of the Program:

  • Module I Course Registration Fee: $392.50  due prior to program beginning
  • Student Clinic Course Registration Fee: $188.00  due before clinic start
  • Module II Course Registration Fee:  $376.00 due prior to starting Module II
  • Module III Course Registration Fee: $308.00 due prior to starting Module III

  • Students must comply with the program attendance requirements.
  • Students will be required to wear navy scrubs and comfortable, close-toed shoes to all classes.
  • All classes will require a minimum grade of 80% on all examinations, papers, quizzes, and practical (hands-on) work.
