Workforce Development Scholarships
Corporate and Continuing Education Scholarship
Employers in today's workforce are facing a skills gap, and they need trained and qualified workers to fill a variety of positions. The Continuing Education Program is designed for noncredit students to earn industry-recognized credentials/certifications through an accelerated training schedule. Our Continuing Education non-credit course scholarship committee will only consider applicants for one of these courses. Scholarship applications will be reviewed at the beginning of each month.
Application Guidelines
- Applicants only need to submit ONE application per year to be considered for a scholarship.
- All scholarships are competitive; based on a variety of scholarship criteria established by the Continuing Education Scholarship Committee. (These criteria may vary based upon changes in the workforce needs, alterations in Federal Guidelines, etc.)
- Continuing Education Scholarship Program will only consider an applicant who either has registered for an approved course or is willing to register for an approved course immediately upon award.
- The applicant must meet the eligibility requirements for training program of choice.
Criteria
To be considered for this scholarship program, an individual must:
- Be a U.S. citizen and a North Carolina resident.
- Be in one of the following target groups: unemployment insurance claimants, unemployed and underemployed adults, members of the N.C. National Guard, or military veterans and spouses.
- Be enrolled in a short-term training program (96 hours or more) .
- Preference will be given to students with limited or no access to financial aid from other programs.
Students will only be awarded one CCE Foundation scholarship within an academic year.

State Employees Credit Union Scholarship
Background
In 2018, SECU Foundation has established the SECU Bridge to Career Program to help remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials through the Workforce Continuing Education Division of their local Community College that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities.
For 2018-2019, the SECU Foundation will provide a total of 6 (six) $500 scholarships to GTCC Workforce Development Students.
Student Eligibility
To be considered for this scholarship program, an individual must:
- Be a U.S. citizen and a North Carolina resident.
- Be in one of the following target groups: unemployed and underemployed adults, members of the NC National Guard, military veterans & spouses, or underserved populations in a specific workforce sector or area.
- Be enrolled in a short-term training program 96-hours or more that leads to a state-regulated or industry-recognized credential and is offered through Continuing Education.
- Not be a Director, employee or family member of an employee of the State Employees’ Credit Union or SECU Foundation.
- Preference is given to students with limited or no access to financial aid from other programs.
- Students should only be awarded one (1) CE SECU Foundation scholarship within a funding year.
- Participating students must complete their enrolled course within the program year, which ends June 30, 2019.
Application Procedure
This scholarship program is administered through the college’s Continuing Education department in collaboration with their Financial Aid office. Individuals must contact local colleges for specific instructions for submitting a scholarship application. All applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee. Scholarship recipients should receive an award letter from the college with instructions for accepting the scholarship award.
Email the completed application to bdcox1@gtcc.edu or deliver in person to the GTCC Financial Aid Office (second floor, Medlin Campus Center at GTCC’s Jamestown Campus). Applications are due no later than April 26, 2019. All applications will be reviewed by a scholarship selection committee and recipients will be announced on or before May 15, 2019.

Golden Leaf Scholarship
The Golden LEAF Foundation has provided scholarships to provide economic assistance to rural low economic areas across the state. Golden LEAF Foundation wants to assist in increasing the number of underserved populations, pursuing and easily accessing education or training through North Carolina community colleges. The scholarships may be used to reduce access barrier for all prospective students by providing financial assistance and services to better assist students with educational costs, particularly costs beyond tuition and fees (e.g., books, transportation, child care, etc.).
