The Center for Creative and Performing Arts at GTCC is located on the High Point Campus and serves as a teaching laboratory and performance space for students enrolled in Entertainment Technology, Theatre, and Music. Integral to the mission at GTCC, the Center for Creative and Performing Arts is committed to developing students and fostering collaboration within the High Point community; working closely with the High Point Theatre, High Point Area Arts Council, High Point Community Theatre and other arts partners throughout the City of High Point.

Campus facilities include: a two-story, 11,705 square-foot, modified black box stage and theater with seating for 82 (GTCC Blackbox), a major concert-production studio with seating for 180 (Building H4, Room 022), and an outdoor amphitheater accommodating 550.

Playwriting Contest

The Center for Creative & Performing Arts at Guilford Technical Community College is thrilled to announce a call for unproduced full-length plays.

GTCC is piloting a new work initiative for the 2019-2020 academic school year, and the selected play would be the first produced as part of this new direction for the theatre program.

Each play submitted will be read by a committee and the committee will determine which play to produce based on the needs of the program.

GTCC is offering to produce the winning play in the fall of 2019. The selected play will be performed three times over one weekend (to be determined) in our 80-seat studio theatre. In addition to the production, the playwright who writes the winning play will receive a $500 prize.

There is no fee to submit. We are considering full-length plays with a run time between 1 and 2 1/2 hours. Submitted plays should not have had any previous productions (either amateur or professional), and we are looking for cast sizes of 2 to 10 performers.

For full consideration, please submit the following two documents as one PDF:

  1. A title page that includes contact information (name, phone and email) for the playwright and a one or two paragraph synopsis of the play
  2. The full play script

Please submit your materials no later than midnight on Feb. 15, 2019 to:

The playwright who writes the winning play will be notified by May 1, 2019. If you have questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact Dr. George McConnell at

Thank you and we are excited to read your work!
