GTCC Theater to Hold Auditions for Fall Play, “The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It”

Published on: August 30, 2018

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Guilford Technical Community College’s Theatre program will hold auditions for its fall production of Don Nigro’s “The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It: Being the Record of One Company’s Attempt to Perform the Play by William Shakespeare.”

Auditions will be held 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the Center for Creative and Performing Arts Theater on GTCC’s High Point Campus. It is open to the community with rehearsals beginning Sept. 10.  Seven roles are available and can be flexibly cast for all ages, genders, race and physical abilities. The audition will consist of a short interview with callbacks for Sept. 6, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

About the play:

When the prolific Mr. Nigro was asked by a professional theatre company to adapt “As You Like It” so it could be performed by a company of seven, he devised a completely original play about a ragtag group of players led by a dotty old curate who must present Shakespeare’s play. The dramatic interest and the comedy derive from their hilarious attempts to impersonate all of Shakespeare’s characters. The play has had numerous productions and has become an underground comic classic.

GTCC’s performance of “The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It” will take place Oct. 25 – 27.
