Guilford Technical Community College, NJCAA Region X honor athletes for academic success

JAMESTOWN, N.C. (May 31, 2022) – Guilford Technical Community College athletes were recently honored for their athletic and academic performances for the 2021-22 school year.

Twenty-six GTCC athletes were honored for their academic achievements in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association while a dozen more were recognized by the college for their academic and athletic performance.

"We are very proud of our student athletes. The Region X awards demonstrate that our athletes can compete academically with any students in the region," said Anthony Clarke, president and CEO of GTCC. "Our coaches all emphasize the importance of class work, and our students understand they have to perform academically to participate athletically."

Kirk Chandler, GTCC athletic director and men's basketball coach, said academic success is part of the athletic culture at the college.

"Our athletes are at GTCC laying the groundwork for their careers. They understand athletics come second, that academic success is their goal," Chandler said.

Athletes recognized at the GTCC Athletics Recognition Reception, which was presented by Sheetz and the GTCC Foundation, included:
