Music Educator and GTCC Alum Jordan C. Jones to March in 2026 Rose Parade

The Saluting America’s Band Directors project has assembled more than 300 band directors from across North America to march in the Pasadena Rose Parade® on Jan. 1, 2026, under the theme, "America’s band directors: We teach music. We teach life."

Jordan C. Jones, former director of bands at Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina, and an alum of GTCC, has been selected to join the national ensemble. The Band Directors Marching Band will accompany a colorful, animated float along the parade’s iconic 5.5-mile route. 

Jones graduated from GTCC's Recording Engineering program in 2020 after previously attending a four-year university. Reflecting on his experience at GTCC, Jones shared, "I was genuinely surprised by the level of care, mentorship, and relationship-building at GTCC. The program provided not only a strong technical education, but a community where I felt valued and supported." 

The Saluting America's Band Directors parade entry honors the extraordinary dedication and impact of band directors and music educators nationwide. Collectively, the educators represented in the ensemble have mentored and taught hundreds of thousands of students throughout their careers. Beyond musical instruction, they instill discipline, leadership, and life skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

According to Jones, "Music is my magic carpet ride — I encourage others to let it be theirs, too."

The ensemble will be directed by nationally recognized music educator and innovative band director Jon Waters, who will also lead rehearsals and additional performances while the group is in Pasadena. 

The Saluting America's Band Directors project is sponsored by the Michael D. Sewell Memorial Foundation, based in Pickerington, Ohio. The foundation was established to honor and continue the legacy of the late Mike Sewell, who dedicated nearly 40 years to advancing school and community music programs in Pickerington and throughout central Ohio.
