Guilford Technical Community College selects Strickland to lead health sciences as its new dean

Angela Strickland, who has a doctorate in physical therapy, has been named the dean of health sciences at Guilford Technical Community College.
Strickland has more than two decades of leadership experience in higher education, allied health and clinical practice.
In her role with GTCC, Strickland will provide strategic and operational leadership for the college’s health sciences programs, supporting the college’s mission, vision and long-term goals. She will oversee the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of instructional programs, services, budgets, and division personnel.
“Dr. Strickland brings an exceptional blend of academic leadership, clinical expertise, and a demonstrated commitment to student success,” said Beth Pitonzo, Ph.D. GTCC’s senior vice president of instruction. “Her experience leading complex health sciences divisions and her deep understanding of accreditation, curriculum development, and faculty support make her an outstanding fit for GTCC and for the future development of our health sciences programs.”
Strickland most recently served as interim dean of allied health, nursing and natural science at New River Community and Technical College in West Virginia where she oversaw daily academic operations, faculty management, curriculum development, assessment, accreditation and student support for more than 90 fulltime, parttime, and adjunct faculty members.
She previously served as interim dean of pre professional and transfer programs at New River Community and Technical College, and as the founding director of the physical therapist assistant program, where she led the program through successful accreditation in 2021. Prior to working in higher education, Strickland worked as a physical therapist and in healthcare management.

Strickland holds a doctorate in physical therapy from Chatham College, a Master of Science in physical therapy and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University. She is completing an educational doctorate in leadership studies at Marshall University.
