GTCC Welding Students Help Bring NC Folk Festival to Life

GTCC welding students and staff put their skills on display at the 2026 NC Folk Festival, creating four massive steel letters spelling “FOLK” for the downtown Greensboro event. Twelve students spent more than 100 hours over approximately 10 weeks applying hands-on skills in welding, metalwork, layout and fabrication to bring the installation to life. Each letter stands about six feet tall, measures three feet wide and weighs approximately 600 pounds. The project gave students valuable real-world experience in teamwork, precision and problem-solving while creating a centerpiece for thousands of festival visitors.
