Mobile health screenings serve GTCC faculty, staff, students, and the larger community

Guilford Technical Community College is hosting a series of free mobile health screenings at its Greensboro, High Point, and Jamestown campuses throughout the fall and spring semesters.
Through a partnership with Cone Health, the health system’s mobile screening unit that’s staffed by certified medical assistants - will provide services such as blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings, along with preventive health education, to GTCC students, faculty, and staff, and those in the community.
The first screening was held earlier this fall in Jamestown and the next event is Thursday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at GTCC’s Greensboro campus at 3505 E. Wendover Ave. No appointment is necessary.
“At GTCC, we recognize that supporting our students extends beyond the classroom, so when we had the opportunity to partner with Cone Health to bring important health and wellness services directly to our campuses, it felt like a natural fit,” said Conrad Worley, Ed.D. GTCC’s Greensboro campus manager. “As access to healthcare continues to be a challenge for many individuals, this partnership allows us to provide free, convenient services that can make a meaningful difference.”
Cone Health launched its mobile screening unit in 2019 and used it during the pandemic to provide testing. Since then, Cone Health expanded the services to include free preventive health screenings and the program has continued to grow ever since.
“This partnership with GTCC allows us to bring preventive care directly to students, employees, and community members, and helps reduce barriers to accessing healthcare,” said Lily Reppert, Cone Health’s mobile program clinic nurse manager. “By meeting people where they are, we can make screenings more convenient and help connect individuals with additional care when needed.”
GTCC believes in removing external education barriers for students through a variety of resources, including CAE tutoring services, TitanLink assistance programs, and now through free mobile health screenings.
“Ultimately, we want to provide convenient access to preventive health services and information that can help people be more proactive about their well-being,” Worley said. “Having the mobile unit right on campus removes an additional step for someone who might otherwise put off a basic health screening.”
Recognizing the impact of bringing services directly to the community, Cone Health currently operates three mobile units focused on screening, heart health, and mobile medicine.
“Routine screenings can help identify concerns like high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol before symptoms develop,” Reppert said. “Taking a few minutes to check on your health can be an important first step toward preventing future complications.”
By partnering on this effort, GTCC and Cone Health hope to have a lasting impact on the health of those in the communities they serve.
“GTCC has locations throughout Guilford County and I am excited about what we can accomplish together by making these services easily accessible to our students, faculty, and staff, and extending them to our surrounding communities,” Worley said.
