Show Up, Log In, and Stay on Track!

At GTCC, we want your focus to be on achieving your goals—not worrying about unexpected setbacks. That’s why understanding your course census dates is so important. Keep reading to learn how you can stay enrolled, maintain your financial aid, and avoid any unnecessary hurdles.

What Is a Census Date?

The census date is your course’s official "check-in" point. It’s the deadline for verifying that you’re attending and participating in your class. Each course has its own census date, which is listed in your syllabus on Canvas.

Think of it like roll call—it’s our way of saying, "Are you still with us?" And if you don’t show up or participate by this date, you’re automatically marked as a “No Show” (NS).

Why Does the Census Date Matter?

Missing the census date leads to some pretty serious consequences:

  • “No Show” (NS) Grade: You’ll be dropped from the class.
  • Financial Aid Impact: If you’re receiving financial aid, you’ll lose funding for that specific course.
  • No Refunds: If you’ve paid out of pocket for the class, you won’t get that money back.

How Can I Meet the Attendance Requirement?

Below are the specific ways in which you can meet attendance requirements based on the type of course you’re taking:

  •  Online Classes
    • Complete the Academic Integrity Quiz in Canvas by the census date. It’s that simple.
  • In-Person Classes
    • Be present in class and ensure your instructor marks you as present. Just show up—that’s all it takes!
