Commencement Ceremony: Thursday, May 9, 2024, Greensboro Coliseum

Adult High School and High School Equivalency Graduates are invited and encouraged to participate in commencement exercises, which are held in honor of all 2024 graduates of Guilford Technical Community College. The ceremony will last approximately 1½ hours.

  • 10 a.m. Commencement lineup
  • 11 a.m. Commencement

Commencement will not be a ticketed event. There is no limit to the number of guests each graduate may invite.

Graduates should RSVP if they will be participating in the graduation ceremony. For Greensboro, call 336-334-4822 ext. 53107. For High Point, call 336-334-4822 ext. 55087.

There is no charge for the basic regalia set. Caps and gowns will be available for pickup during the Grad Fair on April 17-18, 2024, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., or any day after through Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Jamestown Campus Store. All caps and gowns must be picked up no later than Wednesday, May 8, 2024, and will not be available at the coliseum before the ceremony. The Jamestown store also offers announcements, frames, rings, veteran’s cords, and more to help celebrate your accomplishment.

Graduates will wear their caps in the academic procession and throughout the ceremony.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Graduates should position their tassels to the right-front side of their cap. After the degrees have been conferred, GTCC President, Dr. Anthony Clarke, will ask all Graduates to reposition their tassels to the left-front side of their cap.

Honor Cords/Tassels are earned in one of the following ways:

  • High School Equivalency graduates who have achieved a minimum combined score of 620 points on all four official GED tests or who have earned a minimum combined score of 75 points on all 5 HiSet tests.
  • Adult High School graduates who have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Honor graduates will wear a gold cord or tassel to designate their academic achievement. A representative from the program will have a definitive list of graduates who are eligible for the Honors designation during the Commencement lineup.

Women should wear dark-colored dresses or slacks and dark-colored shoes with low- to medium-high heels.

Men should wear dark-colored pants and dark shoes.

No graduate should wear jeans or flip-flops for this very special occasion.

Unpack your gown a few days before graduation to allow the wrinkles to go away. Steam from the shower or an iron on a lukewarm setting will also help to remove any wrinkles.

Look for the Adult Education sign once you have entered the Coliseum. This is where you will check in and line up for the ceremony. The lineup will begin at 10 a.m. Staff will be at that location to assist you. It is very important to remain in your assigned location. The lineup should be completed at least 30 minutes before the actual ceremony begins – promptly at 11 a.m.

Graduates will receive a blank diploma cover when they cross the stage.

GED, HiSet, and Multiple Pathways diplomas, transcripts, and verification requests are processed through DiplomaSender. Please contact Diploma Sender at or 855-313-5799 for your transcript requests or queries regarding your transcripts or diplomas.

Adult High School diplomas can be picked up on campus. Please contact Krystal Gossett, director of ABE/ASE programs, at 336-334-4822, ext. 53049, or for more information.
