GTCC to Host Avionics Open House June 5

JAMESTOWN, N.C. – Guilford Technical Community College will host a free open house for its Avionics Technology program 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5 at Aviation Center II Avionics Lab located at 819 Radar Road, Greensboro.
Visitors will have an opportunity to speak one-on-one with avionics faculty members, learn more about the program and potential career paths, tour GTCC’s state-of-the-art avionics facility and speak with recent graduates of the program who are working in the area.
Representatives from local aviation companies including Causey Aviation, Aero Services, Textron, HAECO Avionics and Spark Chaser will also be available to discuss different career opportunities in the field.
If you’re looking to begin a new career in the growing field of aviation or build on an existing aviation career, the avionics field offers a promising future. Avionics technicians can earn as much as $91,000 a year according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
GTCC’s curriculum provides individuals with the basic knowledge and skills to enter the avionics field as a technician and prepares students for the current avionics licensing agency examination. Coursework includes general aviation maintenance, sheet metal, airframe systems, electrical and electronic systems, practical wiring, navigation equipment, communications equipment, radar and air traffic management systems, flight management and flight control systems and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Upon completion of the program, students will receive an associate degree in applied science in aviation electronics (avionics) technology and gain their FCC licensing.
