GTCC Honors Program
The GTCC Honors Program is designed for high-achieving students. The classes you take will provide a deeper learning experience than regular classes. Courses promote a culture of advanced academic engagement.
The program is open to students in an associate degree program who plan to transfer to university for a bachelor's degree.
Your participation will provide a richer experience that includes:
- Opportunities to assume leadership roles in classes and around campus
- Smaller class sizes
- Assignments and coursework comparable to upper-level university courses
- Guaranteed admission into the UNCG Honors Program
- More scholarship opportunities and access to scholarships available specifically for honors program students

Eligibility to become a member
- Applicants cannot have earned more than 12 credit hours at the college level.
- Students, including those transferring from other institutions, must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
- New high school graduates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher for completed high school coursework.
- Honors program students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher for all college-level courses at GTCC in order to remain in the program.
- Honors program students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher to transfer into the UNCG Honors Program.

Follow these steps to complete your honors program application:
- You must be admitted to GTCC before applying to the honors program and have activated their GTCC account with their username and password.
- Verification that you have met the GPA requirement for the honors program
- Complete the honors program application
- Three letter(s) of recommendation:
- Academic. College, university or high school instructors. The letter should address the student’s previous and potential academic performance. Areas of focus should address the student’s written, verbal, and critical thinking skills.
- Community Leader.
- Character.
Recommendations may be emailed directly to the honors program email address gtcchonorsprogram@gtcc.edu with the name of the applicant in the subject line. Do not mail paper copies.
- A personal statement of 300 to 500 words in which you address the following questions:
- Why are you a good candidate for the honors program? What would you bring to the honors program?
- What do you hope to experience and gain from the honors program?
- What unique identities, experiences, and hardships would enhance your leadership potential, while strengthening the honors program?
- Meet with one of the honors program coordinators for an interview.
