Frequently Asked Questions

Basket Making
This course teaches basic to advanced level basketry techniques and terms and includes dyeing and weaving with reed. Weaving with painted paper is also available. If you are a first-time student, you will start with a reed basket and can move on from there. You may complete two to three baskets in one session. Please bring to class a basin, spray bottle, small screw driver, measuring tape, pencil, towel, and heavy-duty scissors. There will be an extra cost for materials.

Chrismons
The word Chrismon is the combination of two words, Christ and monogram. Each Chrismon depicts a specific Christian element in the form of a hanging Christmas tree ornament. You make these decorations with pearls, gold beads, and crystal beads, which you string on wire. There is an extra cost for materials. You will be told about the costs at the first class meeting.


Watercolors
This course teaches the elements and techniques of painting using watercolors. Watercolor painting is a skill that anyone can learn! This fun, informative, stress-free class is designed for the beginning and leisure watercolorist. You do not need to have any drawing skills to take this class. Come and discover the unique and beautiful qualities of watercolor in a welcoming, supportive environment. You will be told about the supplies that you need during the first class session.

Oil Painting
This course teaches the fundamentals of traditional oil painting techniques. The course features the genre of still life painting, as well as drawing basics when working from life, and time-honored methods and materials unique to oil painting. The course includes instructor demonstrations and one-on-one time. There will be an extra cost for materials. The instructor will explain the extra costs for materials on the first day. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain
In this course, you will learn and practice the five basic skills of drawing in a fun, effective way with inspiration from Betty Edwards’ best-selling book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Beginning Sewing
Beginning sewing provides students with the opportunity to learn fabric and pattern selection, principles of cutting and marking, and basic construction skills. Included in the course are darts, seams and finishes, sleeves, hems, pockets, and buttonholes. There is an extra cost for supplies and supply list will be given in first-day class. The college provides sewing machines for class instruction, no personal sewing machines will be allowed in the class.

Advanced Sewing
Students select their own projects and fabric. Also includes alterations of your patterns if necessary. Students may bring a complex pattern(s) and other instruction will be given during the first class. (Includes intermediate through advanced sewing.) The college provides sewing machines for class instruction, no personal sewing machines will be allowed in the class.
