Landscaping Basics

This course is designed to help both a novice and an experienced student learn the correct methods for complete landscape choices, installation and maintenance. This course is updated as new methodology and information is published and is taught from a research-based position.

Students will learn how to care for and plan a landscape. Emphasis will be 'Right Plant, Right Place,' a concept that is foremost in plant survival. By the end of the course, if the student has participated in all eight class meetings, he or she will be able to do a site analysis, plant search and choice, care for and maintain a lawn and landscape plants and create a simple design.

Blooms All Year

This class will show you how to have something in your landscape in bloom all year. Emphasis is placed on locally available blooming trees, shrubs and perennials to create a new landscape or what you can add to update an existing garden.  

New!!! Landscaping for Wildlife and Privacy

This course is designed for those students who want to create a garden that works for both wildlife and the homeowner who may live in an urban environment. Many native plants can create a landscape that works as screening from nearby homes and yet is inviting for the homeowner and desired wildlife. Students will be able to work on their own problem landscape area with a plan to plant in the fall. Students will have the opportunity to address personal design opportunities. Photos and plans are addressed in class. Students will learn how to plan a landscape that can become a haven for wildlife and give them privacy with emphasis on native plants.

New!!! Mosaics for Home and Garden

This course explains the use of mosaic decoration historically and in present day use as an art form. Students will finish one decorative item of their choice with mosaics (tile or glass). Grout color and sealing are addressed as part of the design and planning process. Students must be able to transport project between class meetings. Students will learn how to design and create a mosaic item for their use or to use as a gift.

Interior Design 
This class will teach you the basic techniques in interior design. The course will discuss design styles, budgets, and working with professionals; topics will also include color application, space and furniture, flooring, walls, window treatments and lighting, and accessories. Upon completion you should have the basic knowledge to design your own area of space.

Interior Design Advanced

This class will be a continuation from basic interior design I. Students will apply knowledge learned from interior design I and create a renovation plan for one room. Measuring techniques, color application and placement of furniture, lighting and accessories will be used to transform your choice of room. Color and texture simulation will be shown using a color and sample board. If students have software design, could show a before and after computer simulation. No books required but will need to purchase graph paper, pencils, and a ruler. 

Students can register in one of three ways: PREREGISTRATION is REQUIRED prior to attending class.
