Sofia Garcia

Adjunct instructor in phlebotomy

sofiagarcia.jpgI am Sofia Garcia, and I am a proud Mexican who has been living in the U.S. since 1989. I lived in California for 16 years before moving to North Carolina. I am the mother of two beautiful adult children – Alison and Brandon – who are living on their own and flourishing in their careers.

Since 2008, I have worked at Baptist Hospital as a phlebotomist. I thoroughly enjoy what I do! My job allows me to engage in empathetic patient care and continues to challenge and grow my phlebotomy skills.

I have realized that English as a second language, is indeed a gift instead of an obstacle. It has opened the doors to a new future, that if it were not for this program, would have been more difficult to reach. I've seen how GTCC cultivates and respects different cultures and backgrounds while ensuring that they can access resources to aid in their success.

I am grateful for the program and my first semester of teaching has been amazing!
